A Day of Keeping Chicagoland Warm – Life as a Berwyn Western HVAC Tech

6:00 AM – Rise and Shine

The winter morning alerts show temperatures dropping into the single digits across our service area. As a heating technician at Berwyn Western, these are the days when we know our phones will be busy. After a quick breakfast and coffee, I load up my service van with the essential parts we commonly need for emergency furnace repairs.

7:30 AM – First Call in Downers Grove

Our dispatch sends me to my first call – a family whose furnace stopped working overnight. The house is getting colder by the minute, and their two small children are still in their winter coats indoors. After a thorough diagnostic check, I identify a failed ignitor, a common issue during peak heating season.

Morning Schedule

  • 9:00 AM – Preventive maintenance in Oak Park
  • 10:30 AM – Heater installation consultation in Elmhurst
  • 12:00 PM – Quick lunch break

Afternoon Rush

The afternoon brings three emergency calls in Naperville – all requiring different skill sets:
– Blower motor replacement
– Thermostat recalibration
– Heat exchanger inspection

4:30 PM – Final Service Call

My last stop is in Berwyn for a routine furnace service. While performing the maintenance, I educate the homeowner about the importance of regular filter changes and annual inspections. It’s satisfying to help customers understand how to maintain their heating systems properly.

6:00 PM – Wrapping Up

Back at the shop, I restock my van for tomorrow, complete service reports, and check tomorrow’s schedule. Another day of keeping our community warm comes to an end, knowing we’ve helped several families stay comfortable during these cold Illinois winters.

Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to serve our neighbors throughout Chicagoland. Whether it’s a simple maintenance check or a complex heating repair, being part of the Berwyn Western team means being ready for anything Mother Nature throws our way.
